In operation since 1982, Abu Dhabi International Airport is the capital’s main airport. It serves as the base and hub for Etihad Airways, the fast-growing national flag carrier of the United Arab Emirates and is owned by the Government of Abu Dhabi.

The capital city’s airport consists of three terminals with a joint handling capacity of around 12.5 million passengers annually. However, the airport’s capacity will eventually handle 47 million passengers annually with the completion of the iconic Midfield Terminal Complex (MTC) that is currently under development. Abu Dhabi Airport Company (ADAC) is also officially appointed to take responsibility of the Emirate’s five airports.

The airport provides a wide range of services to passengers that ensure efficient ground operations and satisfaction, 109 check-in desks, 21 gates, 8 baggage claim belts, 4000 parking spaces for short and long term parking, along with a state-of-the-art duty-free area, lounges and hotel.

In 2010 Abu Dhabi International Airport was crowned the ‘Best Improved Airport in the World’* and in April 2012 was awarded by the passenger as the ‘Best Airport in the Middle East’*.These prestigious honors are the result of the Skytrax independent airport passenger satisfaction survey, run across 388 airports globally. Also in 2012, the airport was voted the third best airport in the world within its 20 million passenger category and furthermore, certified as the first 4-star airport in the Middle East, a reflection of the ongoing improvement in the Capital’s Airport facilities and service standards.

Currently, more than 53 airlines operate from Abu Dhabi International Airport, serving more than 85 destinations in 49 different countries across the globe.
